This year, we're trying to step up our representation in the curriculum and go beyond the typical "canon" of literature. We want the students to have more diverse experiences represented in the novels they read, both when it comes to different cultures and races, and, especially in regard to this project, a focus on LGBTQ+ perspectives and experiences. We want our students to not just talk about diversity, but to feel it deeply in a way that only literature can bring about. We need help supplying our students with novels that go beyond what is usually covered in the classroom and help them to empathize and relate with characters across the gender and sexuality spectrum. We will create literature circles this year, focused on different topics. The novels requested will be crucial to our "Gender and Sexuality" circle. We hope they will spark honest, open discussions and foster unity and leadership among the student body.
