The sidewalk chalk will be used for class art projects related to our new SEL program, Choose Love. Through creative expression and collaboration, our students will be able to express and demonstrate the important concepts being taught in Choose Love such as courage, forgiveness, gratitude, and compassion in action. By using the sidewalk chalk, the students will engage in fun, meaningful activities that help them internalize important concepts we want them to learn about social and emotional learning. They will work together to create art that expresses key concepts. Instead of just having the teachers and staff post visuals of the concepts, we want the students to take ownership of those key concepts and put it into action by creating their own visuals as a class. That way, they find the visuals more meaningful because they have made the connections.
