My goal for students using the magnetic fraction pieces and the magnetic decimal pieces I'm requesting for my class is they will master the equivalent fractions standard on the state LEAP test. They will allow students to actively participate in the intervention lesson. They will be working with a partner sometimes. When students have something tangible to aid during a lesson, they are extremely more likely to retain the information and apply it in the future. They were not thoroughly exposed to the curriculum during quarantines last year and Hurricane Ida this year. As a result, they need hands on activities to bridge the learning gap they are currently struggling with so far this year. These math tools will be used during small group interventions to assist students in demonstrating their understanding during math talks. This will build their math confidence. Fractions were a weakness for this group of students during. state testing last year.
