These sofa's will help create a welcoming therapeutic social work space for our 400 immigrant and refugee students. This will be the first social work office in the school's history, with two new social workers, and our hope is to create space where students will want to spend time when they are experiencing struggles and when they are thriving. Young people learn best when they have access to resources that promote healthy and joyful living outside of the classroom. We hope to use these sofas as a way to convene small groups of immigrant students for connection, wellness and healing, as well as exploring and learning about topics that matter most to them. We hope to breakdown some of the barriers that exist for some immigrants and refugees that restrict their access to health and mental health services, including stigma. But our biggest hope is to create a place that can feel like a safe and loving home.
