As a fourth year teacher, I have had the chance the participate in numerous professional developments that help me become a better teacher. After each day of training, I am eager to implement new tools and strategies in my class for a better learning experience for my students. Not only am I excited for the growth that will occur in me through the Breathe for Change program, I am thrilled to see how I can help my school and community. Through this training, I truly believe that I can begin to teach effective strategies that will help my students learn to be the best humans they can be. I teach in an area where a majority of the families live in poverty. In a school like mine, most students have to learn about life and how to handle their well-being with little to no tools or resources. I believe that teaching wellness sends a message to students that they matter, in a world where a lot of forces are already making them feel like they don’t. Wellness tools like mindfulness and yoga empower students to love, take care of, and advocate for themselves.
