Students are expected to sit and learn for 7+ hours a day, the items I am requesting provide opportunities for all students to move and wiggle in a 'quiet' and 'appropriate' way throughout their school day. Providing these opportunities allows students to move while learning, these tools increase focus and attention so that students can excel. Our younger students need to move; ideally, schools should offer frequent recess breaks. However, this isn't always possible as the emphasis is on learning but research indicates recess opportunities actually increase learning. During the winter months in Illinois, outdoor recess becomes less likely due to cold and snow, making the need to move and self-regulate even more important.
