Our library mission states we will make students lifelong library users. With your help, my students will be given access to a wider collection of books that will stimulate their interest in reading and using the library. As a school library media center we are meant to strive to provide an enriched media program. Now that I have completed a collection analysis, student survey, and teacher survey, this is a great way to do build an enriched program. The best 5 Common Core Standards that will be met to address the goals that will enrich the library media program are; Kindergarten - 8th grade will gain access to genres such as poetry, historical fiction, fantasy, horror, fairy tales/ fables, and realistic. This will allow the Library Media Specialist to have book talks and to discuss award-winning books across grade levels. The Library Media Specialist will foster a deeper appreciation for reading for pleasure. Having access to more books will expose the school population to a variety of literature which is key to building a love of reading for a lifetime.
