When I asked my Heritage Spanish speakers if they read in Spanish the majority said no. I asked "Have you ever read magazines in Spanish or children's books or online materials?" They said No. My students deserve an opportunity to become literate in Spanish. I want my students to learn to read and to enjoy reading in Spanish. Having a variety of texts available for students to read will be essential to their obtaining literacy. These students are already literate in English. Biliteracy will open up opportunities for my students.
