In order to provide culturally responsive and diverse stories to my scholars, I found several amazing graphic novels on World War II. Not only will these help my students to have a full-body understanding of the experiences of this era, but it is also a step toward a love of reading and literary independence. Graphic novels are an engaging tool to promote independent reading and small group analysis of the events in World War II. My school has challenged its teachers to incorporate student-led book clubs in which scholars can choose which novel they read. The books I found not only resonate with the group I teach but are also appropriate for a variety of reading levels, and accessible to my English language learners. These novels will be the perfect gateway to better reading skills for my reluctant readers, as well as provide opportunities for in-depth analysis.
