The scholars that I serve require differentiated instructional supports to enhance their learning and help them to access the curriculum. On an average day in my classroom, scholars are working in small groups with me, differentiated literature circles with their peers, or doing partner work with their seat partners! This means that there's lots of learning happening throughout the classroom, requiring a variety of tools and strategies to keep them engaged in their learning and on task. My scholars often rely on assistive technology tools to enhance their learning, and the iPad that I am requesting will help to support their work in our classroom community. For example, scholars can use a text-to-speech app that will read a text to them out loud as they follow along, which helps to strengthen their reading comprehension and fluency skills. They can scan QR codes to access videos that I've created for them with directions and examples about completing specific assignments, or use colored overlays on the flat surface of the iPad to highlight the text and make it easier for scholars to read, which is very difficult to do on a Chromebook. Students can also use the iPad to access instructional support programs that we use for Math, such as ST Math and iReady, and use a stylus pen to show their work and solve math problems directly on the iPad during our daily number talks. After spending more than a year learning from home, my scholars have learned so much about how to engage and interact with technology to support their learning! I am excited about continuing to build upon what they have learned and discovering new tools that we can use in our classroom community to support their continued growth and development!
