The specific (high fire) clay and glazes chosen are designed to last much longer than low-fire clay and glazes. This means that once fired, the project will be waterproof and food safe! These materials work well for teaching students art that involves several steps and processes to achieve the desired results. Giving the students the opportunity to learn about the historical side of how sustainable pottery was created hundreds or thousands of years ago creates a unique opportunity for students to integrate art with history. It can also be integrated well with social studies because different pottery making STYLES are specific to certain cultures also. If kept safe, these pottery creations can be passed down through generations just as they were so long ago.
