Imagine trying to cook without being able to see what you're doing! Learning speech sounds that are difficult for a student to say requires visual mouth cues. Mirrors and adult mouth models are used to help students achieve correct tongue placement when they are in speech therapy. This is extremely difficult with a mask. Visual mouth cues are essential when teaching and learning how to use sounds correctly. Clear masks that comfortably fit children are essential for learning sounds during speech therapy. They can see their mouths in the mirror! Also, having a hook to put the mask on when students are not in speech therapy will help keep masks separate, clean, and available. Additionally, anti fog spray will keep their masks clear. My students will love being able to see what they are working on in the mirror!
