The CDC describes autism (ASD) as a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. Individuals with ASD also typically have sensory processing differences which means they have different ways of understanding and responding to the world around them. This can make being ready for learning a huge challenge so some. Just being in a classroom or sitting at a desk can require unique tools such as a wiggle cushion, slanted writing surface, or noise cancelling head phones. With these tools, my students can be ready to thrive as learners.
