Recorders are a great introduction to music. I use a reward system to mark achievement, Recorder Karate. With each steps, students will pass off a song and earn a belt (colored yarn) to their recorder. They will be challenged but feel accomplished. I have a mixture of student exposed to instruments and some that have never even seen one. The recorders will develop their earn and attention to detail. I hope to develop their musicianship and possible earn new band members. My goal is always to bring up the next appreciators of the arts.
