These home libraries for my 2nd-grade emergent bilingual students will help to create a shift in attitude towards "literacy everywhere" not just at school. As we continue to help them build their own home libraries, these students say "I can keep these?" and we say "Yes!" We encourage them to keep adding to their own home libraries in many other ways too, like books stores, birthdays, and book sales. We explain how filling their rooms with books and reading for 30 minutes at home every day will really help them to learn more, be stronger readers, and enjoy life even more!
