When you suffer from a condition such as Autism or ADHD, 8 hours a day seems like an entire lifetime, When working with students with special needs, you have to approach the way you do things very particularly, have them sit too long and you'll lose them, or if you give them too much free play then you can't get them to refocus so you have to be able to find the balance between the two. The items that I am requesting for my special needs students will provide them with the chance to actually enjoy and participate in recess. These items won't only be used to "play" with but will assist is teaching my students how to share and also build on the many skills being instilled in them by our Occupational Therapist, Many times our department is overlooked which is why we either usually have to come out of pocket or look elsewhere in order to obtain the materials that we need to prepare our students for the society.
