I am creating a safe space for my students to take a break and learn to regulate their bodies and emotions. The Zen Den will provide them with access to a variety of activities. For example, the balance beam will be part of a gross motor/sensory path. The music, tents, light covers, and lamps will help set a calm and relaxing room. The fidgets and sensory toys will be tools to help them regulate their bodies. My goal is to teach my students calming strategies that they can implement both in their academic classroom and home. Including identifying their emotions/triggers, identifying how their body feels, and helping them find activities that calm their body so that they can be ready to learn.
