The items I am asking for are to create a safe and welcoming space for the students. This year's theme is “I’ll be there,” from the Friends TV show. I would like for my room to have a couch where students can come in, sit, read or just relax. For some, a couch is a luxury that they may not have at home. The large area rug will serve as a separate space. The idea is to place chairs and pillows around the rug and create a space for them to read. Educational magazines, and games are being purchased in order to help assist the students with the English language. The coffee table will serve as a space for students to place items such as games or use to complete their homework. We use the SIOP Office to have tutorials for the different classes and also help them with their English. We have notice our students feel more comfortable when the setting is based of as a home rather then a school setting. By creating this inviting space, I am hoping that students will feel welcomed and stop by any time before or after school. This will then allow me and the other ESL aides to build positive relationships with the students.
