In addition to being a Reading Resource Room teacher, I am also the teacher of our school’s media publications class. This particular class is responsible for the morning announcements that are played daily in every homeroom class on campus. Due to IEPs, Individualized Educational Plans, many of our special education students don’t have the opportunity to participate in elective classes due to their special needs. Having said that, they still have a desire to create and contribute to the morning announcement. A new laptop could offer my students the opportunity to learn video editing skills, produce segments and increase their confidence in reading from a teleprompter. This would promote a sense of pride and accomplishment that would be invaluable to my students who often times don’t have much.
