A large part of this class is built upon how human actions influence the natural world around us. We are located in a very interesting area. We have a major city a half-hour away and are also surrounded by farms and crop fields. The health of the soil plays a huge role in the local economy and the lives of these kids. This plant growth chart will allow us to do longer-term inquiry experiments on how our local soils deal with pollution from human sources. Being able to see how plant health is directly tied to soil health will help these students make strong connections to the material and the land around them. Making these sort of connections will allow students to carry the lessons of this class long past the doors of the school and into their lives and the future.
