Graphic novels are in high demand in our library, and unfortunately, our collection is a bit dated. Great graphic novels promote literacy for all types of readers. Graphic novels can also provide a break in our students’ hectic days. Coming in and picking up a book off the shelves and finishing it in a class period can be a boost of confidence for many, and the serial nature of many graphic novels helps with literacy. I have heard from many students who feel that graphic novels have helped them cope with some of the difficult issues they are facing every day. Furthermore, because of their cinematic nature, graphic novels promote lively conversations, imagination, and creativity! The graphic novels from my list are extremely varied, and will appeal to our diverse student body whether they are avid readers or not, if they just started high school or are ready to graduate, or if they are in school or remote learners.
