The therapeutic books and toys selected will support me in addressing the mental health struggles faced by the students I serve in individual and group counseling. They will also serve as resources to help build the social and emotional skills of all students at my school. Through these books and toys, children will feel engaged and empowered to open up in counseling sessions. These resources can help support a child who may have difficulty talking about their feelings or negative experiences. A child who is struggling emotionally and mentally will have a harder time learning at school. I have witnessed how Legos and Play Doh can help that quiet or timid child feel safe and open up. It is my goal to build a trauma-informed office space. This space will include a library of books and an array of toys that supports the building of social and emotional skills and addresses the mental health needs of the students I serve.
