My district is finally allowing us to use small groups in our instruction again! However, we aren't able to have any kidney or regular tables in our classroom in order for their desks to be socially distanced. This year I will be pulling small groups to work on the floor in front of my room, where there will be some room for us to socially distance.
By donating to this project you will be giving students a workspace, helping them to collaborate in their groups, and increasing their engagement.
My students will sit at the surfer desks while working at my guided reading center. For those who may not know, surfer desks provide students a flat raised workspace for students when they are sitting on the floor. The surfer desks will provide a place to use their workbooks and access their resources easily. Students will also be able to use the surfer desks during their independent time as well. During independent time, students may choose to grab a surfer desk and move around the room to do their silent reading or completing their independent work.
My students are incredibly diverse in their strengths and needs. Providing them a surfer desk to work with will allow them to adapt and work in their small groups while utilizing materials like books, Chromebooks, and activity sheets. Working with them in small groups is how I am able to meet my students where they are. Providing them with the surfer desks would help our collaboration and help to ensure that our groups are running smoothly.
