These materials will allow my students explore more facets of our small weaving and crafts curriculum. At BASH it is our goal to grow the art program as much as possible, and offering more variety of projects will cater to larger crowds of students- students who may otherwise sit in a study hall for 40 minutes. We believe in the importance of teaching art because it allows our students to naturally engage with SEL, meaningful ideas, and their peers. Because fiber and textile art often encompass repetitive, meditative movements and encourages the student to get into the artistic “flow,” we are able to build a calm and soothing atmosphere for different students with different needs. This type of atmosphere is the heart of the SEL program in the BASH arts programs.
