This will help students learn to read, love literature, and bring in knowledge about the history of the Dominican Republic and the journey of an immigrant family in the United States. The book is special because it brings in aspects of Spanish and English (Spanglish) and shows students that the way they converse in dialect can be transformed into magical literature. The book touches on aspects of suicide, mental health, love, and identity. This book is incredible for kids and I would be so grateful if you could help them read it, it could truly change their lives.
