After my students 1st teacher left the school at the end of September and took all of the materials with her my students and I were left trying to make the best of the few things we had. When I took over my classroom that first Monday my kids were devastated to see a once full and lively classroom now very empty. I am a first year special education teacher working with students with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities. Hands on is key to everything we do. Administration ordered a lot of materials for us but school budgets in October are non-existent especially in a title 1 school. When I took over the existing class I did not fully understanding what it was my students needed, and I only asked for bare minimum to get us through the year. Now that I've had plenty of time to teach my students I am seeing what we need to be successful. Having this project funded would make all the difference in the world to my students who often just need a quiet corner to calm down in. I teach first through 6th grade. We work on counting, learning our ABC's, social skills, life skills and everything in between. Some of the things you'll be helping our class with is learning about how plants grow, working on our fine motor skills tracing letters and numbers, and learning to read with sight word readers. This project will really be the difference between getting through the rest of this school year and and my students having what they need to succeed this year and beyond. - Mrs. Littlewoods Academic Support Class can't thank you enough!
