I am requesting uniform pants, skirts and shorts to increase my students' chances of being successful. We have always been told to "dress for success" or to "dress for the job we want, not one one we have". What does that look like when you aren't able to afford the clothing needed to be successful? It looks like head down, walking fast, trying not to be noticed. It looks like an unnecessary confrontation by an adult. It looks like school refusal and embarrassment. We require students to wear uniforms, but we don't have the funds to support that requirement for families who struggle financially. This impacts the students' ability to learn, to feel confident and increases the burden they so heavily carry. I am asking for funds for school bottoms -- black and tan pants, shorts, skirts for the students in our school who are not able to afford them.
