Flexible seating is the root of collaboration and comfortable learning. Hard, plastic chairs, only allow for so much natural movement from a student. With different types of seating available, kids can not only find what seating puts them in the best learning environment, but it also gives them a choice in their learning. Giving Students a choice can empower them to do their best and be comfortable while doing so. Giving children the opportunity to move during class, even if it is to a different seat, promotes oxygen flow to the brain and results in better academic performance and better behavior. Small groups are huge in my classroom because my students are at a stage in the life of developing social skills. Different seats easily divide groups and help students pair up faster so that more time is spent critically thinking. I already have some flexible seating in my classroom and the results I have seen have been amazing when it comes to their work ethic, and their desire to learn. I would love to give my students even more options and see how it continues to benefit them!
