Magnetic letters are such a big hit with second graders, and help students to manipulate words by using common sounds. Currently, we do not have these resources on my campus, but they would be a huge help for my English Language Learners (some whom have never spoken English, more or less created words in English!). Once students have built the word using magnets, they can record them on posters to be displayed around the classroom, giving them greater ownership of the room, and a sense of pride for their hard work!
