The puppets will be useful in engaging the students in retelling stories, poems, and rhymes that focus on alliteration, comprehension of what was read, and even math concepts. For example, the A for alligator puppet can be used when students retell the book titled, Five Little Monkeys. The lesson will begin with me reading the book. The purposeful play will take place when a small group of students can retell or use dramatic play to recall the sequencing of the events in the book in the order in which they occurred. This activity can be used to judge the students listening skills and language development as well.
