I aim to create a comfortable, safe space in my classroom! Social-emotional well being is very important to our school and I strive to bring that into the classroom this year. My school is a charter school in Brooklyn, New York. My classroom is an ICT classroom ranging with diverse learners. The classroom is culturally diverse with students varying in socioeconomic backgrounds. My school aims to build a positive culture with students as well as teachers. Every year, we have students with social-emotional issues, and many students face different stresses in their lives that may affect their learning. In the classroom library, I want to create a reading nook in which students can feel comfortable reading a book of their choice. It will include a rug, a beanbag chair, colorful pillows, and a canopy. I hope to inspire my kids to love reading with this area! I also want to create a peace place area. This is an area in which children can come when they are in need of a few moments to themselves. I want to include different forms of stress balls and sensory items. It is an ICT classroom and this is especially helpful for students with disabilities.
