Having a drying rack in my commercial art classroom is crucial to teaching students how to professionally care for their work. It's a piece of furniture that I will need throughout the year as my classes work in traditional media from inking illustrated comic book pages to creating detailed painted posters as well as making multiple screen prints to sell at our end of year show. I know that it will mean the world to my students to have a dedicated space to place their drying work instead of moving it around on makeshift table tops. My program is geared toward professional practices in the arts, and knowing where and how to keep work safe is so important. My worry is that if I don't have certain items in my classroom, such as a drying rack, my students won't be able to see the bigger picture of what a real art + design studio is like.
