I am a school psychologist working with a number of young students on the Autism Spectrum. My goal is to help my students to become better communicators, learn how to express their feelings (verbally or using a device), learn how to remain in a regulated state, and ultimately just enjoy PLAY. Taking turns is an important part of communication development and when children learn to take turns, they learn the basic rhythm of communication, that back-and-forth exchange between people. In addition, good sportsmanship builds teamwork, kindness, resilience, perseverance, emotional regulation, and inclusion. When kids enjoy active play, they look forward to it and learn how to remain regulated over time.
