All classrooms need a class library. But the books in these libraries sometimes do not get read. Why? The students may not like them. However, if the students were able to build their own classroom library they would be much more excited to use it. The books on the list were personally requested by the students in my class. Many students go home from school and do not read for pleasure. However, if students are able to see how much fun reading can be they are more likely to go home and read. These books will be used both in the classroom and out of the classroom to help students develop reading skills and increase vocabulary. Many students struggle with the academic readings that are required of them in class. By getting students excited about reading they will practice more and their school reading will become easier. Having a class library helps to develop a joy and culture of reading.
