I became a teacher to serve as a leader in my community and to show at risk youth with similar life backgrounds and experiences, the power of their education, stories, and voices. As a history teacher, in our current world, I have the responsibility to mold and shape my students, the world's next generation of leaders, into knowledgeable, informed, and civically engaged, thinkers and citizens. While in the classroom, one technique that I use to facilitate learning and to influence change, is the use of guided questions. These questions guide students to higher levels of thinking, prompt them to intellectually challenge themselves and others, and to create meaningful conversations of change. An additional technique that I use to aid learning & to facilitate change in my classroom, is the use of positive incentives through my classroom school store. When a student does something note worthy in my class, weather it is participating in a class discussion, helping a friend with an important task, or scoring high on an exam, I provide them with "Ms.Drane Dollars" so that they can use it to splurge in the classroom school store on Friday's. Providing positive incentives is a great way to reward students for positive performance and to maintain an excitement for learning in the classroom. It is also a great tool that can be used to redirect negative or unsatisfactory behavior and/or performance. Please help me fund small items such as snacks, small toys, trinkets, etc so that I can continue to reward my students for their hard work & dedication to learning. All donations, no matter the value, are greatly appreciated. Thank you & have a phenomenal day! With love, Ms.Drane
