My students will use these books to help understand diverse experiences in the world. One of the novels describes a Hispanic American girl and her experiences growing up in Chicago. The other novel describes how a horrible pandemic rips through Philadelphia in 1793. These books will allow students to reflect on the experiences of the characters. These books allow for detailed discussions to take place in class. Students will be using these learning materials at school and at home to read during their free time. Once students are finished reading the books, they will create projects reflecting what they learned from the books. I believe it is important for students to have access to newer books. These two books teach valuable lessons that they may refer to in the future.
