My 6th-8th grade STEM classes LOVE using Tinkercad to design and create. We currently have one small 3D printer, which is constantly running, but I would love to increase the volume and output potential by purchasing another one. I have tried to introduce them to ways in which 3D printing is really revolutionizing medicine, manufacturing, and technology of the future in addition to having each grade level create designs based on what they are learning in science. For example, in 6th grade Earth Science we will design a rover adapted for travel on each planet and planet beads for bracelets when they learn about the solar system. My 7th graders in Life Science will work in groups to design a cell model with each student in the group being responsible for designing certain organelles. My 8th grader Physical Science classes will create a miniature drag car to study force and motion and how that informs design. I would love to be able to add a 3D printer to my classroom to increase the volume we can print and bring their designs to life! By donating to our project, you can help them find the satisfaction of holding the product of their imagination and hard work in their hands. My students will be able to see and use new and exciting technology that they might otherwise never experience. They will get to see the real world applications of 3D printing. In addition, my students who are at distance learning can also develop designs at home, which I can print and send them to them, helping them to feel included in our class.
