Having a variety of seating will allow my students to have a choice in their learning. If they are comfortable and able to move, they will be more successful. My students will be able to choose which seating will help them to be focused and do their best work during independent work time.
Currently, my students' only options are to work on our classroom rug or at their desks, which is only somewhat beneficial for my high-energy kids. They perform better and are more engaged when they don’t have to sit at a desk all day. Giving them options will not only motivate them but also allow an outlet for that energy.
I have chosen a variety of flexible seating: lap desks, wobble cushions, floor cushions, and exercise balls. This allows for sitting at their desks to get the fidgets out if they choose, or they can sit on the carpet for a change in surroundings.
I know this will have a positive impact on the learning environment in my classroom. This project will be a great way to make school fun and comfortable.
