My students are learning how to talk, understand, read and write in French. What is better than a book to enhance these skills? Reading and understanding French books is still a huge challenge in 3rd grade! My students love to read books! Finding French books is almost impossible outside of the class. With Covid-19, accessing those books has been compromised by the fact that students have been home for a while. Moreover, some of my students think that they are not good enough in French to read some French books (which is obviously wrong). They sometimes need extra help to keep them motivated to read in French. Students are used to coming and taking a book when they are done with their work (which is why I also need a timer, to help them be organized and efficient). Actually, they read at their seats, sometimes next to students working together. But reading is supposed to be a magical escape! I wish I could turn my class library into a wonderful journey into books! I wish it could be a place for students to escape, breathe and think about nothing but their book. With beanbags, giant pillows and a canopy, I would be able to create a cozy and warm place where they can have a wonderful time reading a book! I deeply believe that it will help my students, giving them the willingness to read! I am convinced that this project could help all my students, and especially create the desire to come to the library for those who don't think they are capable of reading in French!
