Welcome! In our photo, we are pretending to be Emperor Penguins. We learned they stay warm by forming a huddle. We also practiced carrying an egg on our feet, (a kick ball) and trying to pass it to a partner without letting it drop on the ground. Hands on activities make the topics we study come to life. This activity was used as a follow up to a story we read in our anthology. When we read that the father penguin has to take care of an egg on his feet for two whole months in the freezing cold while the mother went for food, my students didn't realize what an amazing feat that was. Then we went outside and they had a much better understanding of what that really meant.
