My goal with this project is to collect more diverse literature options for students to use when they are reading independently. I want students to be able to read and hear their stories and their experiences represented in the literature that is available on my shelf. I also want to transform my classroom’s physical space into an area that is warm, comfortable, inviting, and engaging for all students. In this post-covid (or really, current covid) educational realm, I want students to feel as connected as possible to me, their space, their peers, and the curriculum. My current library was handed down to me by a past teacher, so many of the titles are dated and not reflective of current experiences or issues. I want my students to have access to books that are current and deal with the issues and conflicts that face them on a daily basis. That is my goal for expanding my library.
