The kickball, spikeball, and speedminton materials in this project will be used to foster the small sided game approach that I use to get all my students involved in learning the foundational movement skills for lifetime fitness. With spikeball kids work in pairs of two or three to improve their eye-hand coordination, teamwork, reaction time, and agility skills. With Speedminton, the students learn how to strike objects with an implement and gauge the flight of objects moving in space, with kickball students learn various teamwork skills...and they just have an overall awesome time.
I have seen firsthand how activities like these can be an immensely positive influence on their social and emotional well-being. It brings them (and myself) so much pride and joy to see success after persevering through the initial challenge of learning these new skills. I believe that small successes like this translate greatly to their self-confidence inside the classroom and ultimately in everyday life. Many of these students are at-risk and come from multiple-family households and would otherwise have no access to games like this outside of a quality physical education program. It is my hope to build this program, and your generous donation would be an amazing first step.
