The goal of my project is to enhance my computer science classroom by providing materials students need to create hands-on STEM projects and allowing them to experience the concepts of computer science through unplugged activities. Allowing students to learn about concepts such as conditional logic and loops through board and card games will help to meet the needs of all learners in my classroom. Engaging with the curriculum in this way will help cement the concepts in their minds and allow them to unplug from their computers while still being engaged in the learning process. Students have access to Micro:bit microcontrollers in my classroom and with the addition of the materials in this project they will get to create several STEM projects. One of these projects is an "Egg" Drop using the Micro:bits as the egg. Students will use the tape, bubble wrap, and cardboard cutter to build their egg drop projects. They will code their microbits to measure the G force applied to the micro:bit as it is dropped and get to experience data collection by analyzing the data their micro:bit collected during the drop! Students will also get to experience how computer programming and physical science can work together by creating a Soil Moisture Level Detector using their micro:bits and the nails included in my project! These are just two examples of how these materials will bring coding to life for my students and to help them see themselves as computer scientist!
