My students come from very diverse backgrounds and educational experiences. Scholastic Action Magazine is the perfect reading supplement to help teach content standards while using current topics of interest to their age. Students seem to enjoy taking a break from the textbook once in a while and using Action is often looked upon as a "treat" or "reward." It's kind of like hiding vegetables in a desert---they just think they are having fun, and they are, BUT, they are learning at the same time. Students look forward with enthusiasm to reading the magazine and that is what makes me smile.
