My class is composed of a diverse group of learners. It is important to allow students to not only see themselves represented in stories, but also create a classroom environment that will enrich my students' knowledge of other cultures and they can learn to appreciate each other's differences and embrace our similarities. Classroom libraries need to reflect student demographics and I am asking for help in purchasing books that feature Black Americans whose stories will foster a greater sense of belonging and acceptance. These books will promote diversity, display many cultures, include family representations, special needs, and will allow us to further critical thinking skills.
