It is extremely difficult to hear my students’ young voices as they whisper their request, question, thought, or answer. I repeatedly ask them to speak louder or have to move closer to hear them. Wearing a face mask adds to the challenge of hearing my students. My heart goes out to them as they learn to communicate during this pandemic. The sound system (microphone and speaker) will give my students the tool they need to communicate - tell their story, explain themselves, compliment each other, ask questions, share their thoughts, and more. It will amplify their voice and elevate their self-esteem. I recently used a fellow teacher’s mic to help my students share their “Me Museum” projects. They clutched the microphone and eagerly shared their “Me Museum” and all the things that were special to them. Their classmates were immediately interested and engaged. They could hear and understand their friends for the first time. I would like to have a sound system permanently in my classroom. It will give the students the opportunity to be heard clearly. They can practice public speaking and gain confidence in sharing their voice. We can hear them now!
