When thinking about all the loss and trauma my students have experienced during this pandemic, I also think about how they have not had an opportunity to readjust to this new way of life. No one has probably interacted with them on how to cope with being in a pandemic, the loss of loved ones, a serious decrease in social interactions with peers and how most of their day includes sitting in front of a computer. This alone has prevented our students from getting adequate exercise and socialization. This calming space with allow them to breathe and have a space to clear their heads before they find themselves about to explode. It's a place where they can say "Calgon Take Me Away". My Calming Room will be used for Emotional Regulation. The goal of my calming room is to reduce a negative sensory input and provide calming visual, auditory, and tactile experiences to help my students destress. This room will be used to help my students de-escalate and emotionally reset.
