The students in my classroom are able to complete the tasks that their peers are able to complete, however they require unique tools to accomplish their goals. With these scissors, these children with multiple disabilities, often affecting their fine motor skills which are required for cutting, will be able to complete this simple task without frustration. Their level of independence will be increased, giving them a sense of pride, purpose, and dignity that we all strive for in our lives. Requesting scissors might seem like a trivial desire, but when you are constantly made to feel as though you are a burden, it's a breath of fresh air when you are able to complete a task hassle-free. With this equipment, these students will be able to create gifts for their loved ones, for friends, and will begin to build fine-motor skills which will carry over to life skills like dining and caring for themselves. Scissors, and tools like this, are taken for granted by those of us lucky enough to be able to access them. Help make life just a little easier for some of the sweetest people who make the world a beautiful place just by showing up every day.
