This project will provide an inviting, screen-free, safe and comfortable space within the library. After parking their phones, students will be able to read or peruse high-quality coffee table books that connect to their interests and extend to the larger world. With time, we can expand the collection of books kept in this area to include art, architecture, nature, and beyond. This space will offer a pause in the normal rush of information, and create space to spark new ideas and imaginings. It will encourage literacy, perspective-taking, and healthy habits such as screen breaks and mind-wandering leisure--something students rarely have an opportunity to do. Surrounded by books, students will have a chance to relax and explore.
