After the isolation and hands-off art class of the last year, I'm looking to welcome my eighth graders back with a bang this year by diving headfirst into three hands-on, process-oriented three dimensional projects. The first on my list is weaving- a graceful and meditative art form that was once primarily a functional art. My vision is that the students will create weavings that run the gambit from colorful and cohesive woven patterns, to pictorial tapestries on the loom, to experimental and highly textured abstract weavings. There are so many possibilities when it comes to weaving and I would love to share the meditation and magic of the textile arts with my scholars.
